Running back embroiled in contract dispute Aaron Wilson
The boiling contract dispute between the Tennessee Titans and star running back Chris Johnson is beginning to cool down.
The Titans are conducting talks with Johnson's agent regarding a potential compromise to get the All-Pro runner into training camp after skipping the entire offseason of minicamps and workouts, according to the Tennessean.
Per the report, the Titans are open to increasing the NFL Offensive Player of the Year's 2010 compensation on the heels of his league-high 2,066 rushing yards.
Due a $550,000 base salary, Johnson has said he wants to be the highest paid offensive player in the league and is seeking at least $30 million in guaranteed money.
Per the report, the Titans could convert escalator clauses in Johnson's deal to pay him another $2.5 million this year.
It's far less than what Johnson is seeking, but at least it's something to reward him for a terrific season.
And it would buy time for the Titans to hammer out a long-term deal going forward after a new collective bargaining agreement is negotiated.
