Chris Owusu might have found some rosters that would be easier for an undrafted rookie free agent to crack, but he chose to sign with the San Francisco 49ers.
Owusu has a relationship with coach Jim Harbaugh from his time at Stanford and believes he will get a fair shake. Owusu would almost certainly have been drafted had it not been for three concussions in his final two seasons in school.
“For me, the draft's only the beginning,” Owusu told the San Francisco Chronicle. “It's not the end.”
The 49ers have done considerable work to upgrade their depth chart at the position this offseason, drafting A.J. Jenkings in the first round and signing Mario Manningham in free agency. The Niners also picked up Randy Moss after he ended his retirement.
Hopefully, Owusu will remain healthy enough to compete for a job.
