Clemson DB Marcus Gilchrist visiting the Rams today

Clemson defensive back Marcus Gilchrist is visiting the St. Louis Rams today, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

He has previously visited the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gilchrist has previously worked out for the Cleveland Browns and has met with Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Gilchrist has a total of six visits and three private workouts.

Per a source, Gilchrist's versatility as a cornerback,safety and returner has drawn high marks from teams with one NFL general manager remarking that he's one of the smarter defensive backs he's been around.

Gilchrist ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the NFL scouting combine, also bench pressing 225 pouns 26 times. He registered a 38 1/2 inch vertical leap.

At his Pro Day campus workout, Gilchrist improved his broad jump to 10-6 from 9-11 at the combine and posted a 6.81 three-cone drill.

That workout was attended by Arizona Cardinal defensve coordinator Ray Horton and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.

The 5-foot-9, 192-pounder had a 4.25 short shuttle.

The honorable-mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference kick returner ranked n the top three in the conference in kickoff returns and punt returns.

Last season, he registered 62 tackles, an interception, 10 pass deflections and two tackles for losses.

As a junior, he recorded 107 tackle and six pass deflections.
