Jayron Kearse, a consensus four-star Florida recruit in the Class of 2013, has given his verbal pledge to Clemson.
The 6-3, 190-pound athlete chose the ACC school over Auburn.
Kearse, who is the Tigers’ 18th commitment for 2013, is listed as an outside linebacker by Scout.com but he has played quarterback the last two seasons in a triple-option offense. He rushed for 1,600 yards last season with 17 rushing touchdowns at Cypress Lake High School (Fort Myers, FL). However, he has transferred to South Fort Myers High School (Fort Myers, FL) and will play receiver and defensive back. He could be a valuable safety in the future with the Tigers.
The nephew of former NFL star Jevon Kearse and cousin of pro cornerback Phillip Buchanon, Kearse was committed to Auburn but decommitted in January in favor of Miami. However, he decommitted from Miami three days after visiting Dabo Swinney’s camp in June.
And now he is a Clemson Tiger -- unless, of course, he decommits again.
Swinney has already received verbal pledges from the nation's top overall player, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, as well as Scott Pagano, one of the top defensive tackles in the 2013 class. Those two players highlight a tremendous lineup of defensive talent in this class.
Certainly, it's a haul that should vault the Tigers to near the top of the recruiting rankings if most of the recruits stay committed until National Signing Day in February.
