If you’re a starting college quarterback who plays in the south, there is a pretty decent chance you’re hurt right now.

Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett, Georgia Tech’s Josh Nesbitt and Miami’s Jacory Harris will all miss their respective spring practices due to a variety of injuries.

Mallett, who is considered by many to be one of the top college signal-callers entering the 2010 season, broke his left foot on Wednesday and is expected to miss 3-4 months.

In his absence, sophomore Tyler Wilson and redshirt freshman Brandon Mitchell will take the snaps for the Razorbacks this spring.

Mallett’s 2009 Stats:  3,627 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, 7 interceptions (8-5 record)

Nesbitt, who led the Yellow Jackets to an 11-3 record and a trip to the FedEx Orange Bowl, underwent minor surgery on his right ankle recently and will be out for the entire spring.

Two-year backup Jaybo Shaw and third-stringer Tevin Washington will run the Georgia Tech offense while Nesbitt recovers.

Nesbitt’s 2009 Stats:  1,701 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 1,037 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns (11-3 record)

Harris, one of college football’s most exciting players to watch, is set to miss all of spring practice due to a thumb injury.

This is where things get interesting.  While Harris is out, 2009 backup A.J. Highsmith and early enrollee Stephen Morris will battle it out for the No. 2 spot on Miami’s depth chart.  In addition to Highsmith and Morris, UMASS transfer Spencer Whipple-the son of Hurricanes offensive coordinator Mark Whipple-is in the mix for some reps as well.

Harris’ 2009 Stats:  3,352 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, 17 interceptions (9-4 record)

Since I just spent roughly 300 words discussing negative news, I’ll close this piece out with a nice play by Nesbitt some of you ACC fans may remember.

Finally someone posts a list of just the UFA's. Of course they fail to include on meaningful info about any of them. OL is a position? Really, they just go in and play anywhere on the offensive line? How about a few stats as well so that this list has some kind of point.
