The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Daniel “Boom” Herron off the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad one day after working out former Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith.

The Colts needed reinforcements at running back with Ahmad Bradshaw out for the season with a neck injury that will require surgery.

Herron is a former Bengals sixth-round pick who has played in three games with a blocked punt, four special-teams tackles and four runs for five yards. At Ohio State, he had 592 rushing attempts for 2,869 yards and 32 touchdowns as well as 44 receptions for 309 yards and a touchdown.

The Colts also signed outside linebacker Andy Studebaker to the roster. Studebaker is a former Kansas City Chiefs player who has 51 tackles, five pas deflections, 2 1/2 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble with 45 special-teams tackles.

Studebaker tried out for the Colts on Tuesday.
