With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roughly $59 million below the salary cap and facing an NFL requirement that teams must devote 99 percent of their spending in cash toward the $120.375 million cap, they'll have a bevy of financial commitments to make.

Besides trying to retain players such as free agent offensive guard Davin Joseph and linebacker Barrett Ruud and perusing the free agent market, the Buccaneers have a prime candidate for a contract extension on their own roster in restricted free agent kicker Connor Barth.

Due $1.9 million this year after being assigned a second-round restricted tender, Barth is heading into his fourth NFL season.

Last year, Barth hit 23 of 28 field goals and a long of 53 yards for an 82-percent success rate and made all of his 36 extra points.

He has also connected on 47 of 59 career field goals, a 79.7 percent mark.

Last season, Barth hit a game-winning field goal against the Cincinnati Bengals with one second remaining.

Barth tied an NFL record with three field goals 50 yards or longer in a single game against the Miami Dolphins in Nov. 15, 2009 contest, converting from 51, 50 and 54 yards. Now, Barth shares the record with Morten Andersen, Neil Rackers and Josh Brown.

A former undrafted free agent from the University of North Carolina, Barth's younger brother, Casey Barth is the Tar Heels' current kicker.
