Cops say announcement on Talib could come later in week

Police in Garland, Texas, continue to investigate the alleged involvement Aqib Talib had in a domestic dispute and shooting that occurred March 21.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback is a “person of interest” for authorities, news first reported this morning by the Dallas Observer. Talib and his mother Okolo allegedly intervened in a dispute between Talib’s sister Saran and her boyfriend Shannon Billings.

It’s a mixed tale to say the least.

“I will confirm he is a person of interest,'' Joe Harn of the Garland Police told the St. Petersburg Times. “This is still an open case. Once the detectives have decided, probably later this week, if there are charges that need to be brought against him or not, because of the high-profile interest in this case, we'll have an announcement.”

Per the Observer report, Talib attempted to pistol whip Billings. He then allegedly fired shots at Billings, who was fleeing on foot, with a gun that belonged to Okolo. Billings was not injured. Billings has been arrested on an unrelated charge.

Obviously, any kind of charge against Talib could lead to significant consequences with him in the NFL. He’s already dealt with the league in relation to the personal conduct policy, serving a one-game suspension at the beginning of last season.

Stay tuned this week for more developments.
