Giants head coach would have preferred No. 5 going elsewhere. Joe Fortenbaugh
Tom Coughlin has had a ringside seat to the Donovan McNabb show since January of 2004, when he took over as head coach of the New York Giants.
Coughlin delivered a Super Bowl to the good folks of New York/New Jersey in 2008, but he’s also found himself on the wrong end of No. 5’s heroics from time to time over the years.
ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that he had run into Coughlin earlier in the day and asked the Giants boss what he his thoughts were on the McNabb situation.
“Please get him out of the division,” Coughlin told Schefter. “We do not want to face him anymore.”
Big Blue has lost three straight regular season games to McNabb. In addition, Coughlin is 0-2 in his career against No. 5 in the playoffs (2007, 2009).
Maybe that trend will change now that McNabb is playing in Washington. Coughlin’s had success against the ‘Skins, going 9-3 since taking over in New York.
Then again, maybe it won’t.
