Could T.O. still land in Cincy?

Owens will still be available after the draft. Matt Bowen

The market for WR Terrell Owens is anything but hot right now, and over at Bengals.com, Geoff Hobson believes there is still an outside chance that Cincinnati revisits the idea of T.O. after the draft.

Like most veterans who are unemployed right now, Owens is better off waiting till the draft has come and gone. In this scenario, clubs that were in the market for a rookie wide receiver—but came up short—will explore the veteran talent pool.

When the Bengals signed Antonio Bryant over T.O. this off-season it was telling, because Cincy needed a wide receiver who could compliment Chad Ocho Cinco in a way that forced opposing defensive coordinators to game plan for two WRs who could stretch the field.

T.O. isn’t going to offer that at this stage of his career.

However, he is still a solid No.3 option and a player who can contribute in the offensive sub packages. But, we all know money is going to be the deciding factor for Owens.

Hobson, who points out that the Bengals will pay Bryant $7 million per season, belives Cincy will not break the bank for Owens, and speculates on a number of $1.5 million for the 2010 season.

But, will Owens and agent Drew Rosenhaus accept that? A major price drop and the outlook that he will be nothing more than a No.3 option for quarterback Carson Palmer. Plus, let’s not forget that he will be playing for a team that also values the run game with Cedric Benson.

It is an option for Owens and possible chances like this one could be sparse. It is still early April, but teams aren’t lining up to bring T.O. in for a visit, and I expect that to continue till after the draft.

He will eventually find a home before the start of the regular season, but at what rate? Money will come first in any deal with Owens.
