The Dallas Cowboys' defensive line will be shorthanded at their organized team activity, and throughout the spring.

That's because defensive tackle Henry Melton isn't expected to practice until training camp as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last season with the Chicago Bears.

Plus, defensive end Anthony Spencer is on the mend from microfracture surgery.

Melton and Spencer could both be sidelined for quite a while, but the outlook for Melton appears more encouraging.

Spencer might start the season on the physically unable to perform list.

Plus, new defensive tackle Amobi Okoye isn't ready to go after being out all of last season with an undisclosed medical issue.

So, the younger players will get a long look while the veterans are out.
