Cowboys release Jay Ratliff

The Dallas Cowboys have parted ways with former seventh-round draft pick Jay Ratliff.

Ratliff was let go and designated with a failed physical. He was eligible to come off of the physically unable to perform list this week due to sports hernia and hamstring injuries. However. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said Ratliff's return was unlikely.

In a team release, it's noted that the Cowboys will now discontinue paying Ratliff his $1.34 million base salary for the remainder of 2013. However, they'll will be on the hook for $10.268 million cap charge that will roll over into next season.
