Bucs defensive end faces same charges Plaxico Burress did Brad Biggs
Da’Quan Bowers finds himself in quite a jam today after he was arrested Monday at LaGuardia Airport in New York carrying a loaded .40-caliber handgun in his bag.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end is in the same predicament as Plaxico Burress was in back in 2008 – minus the hole in his leg where Burress shot himself.
According to Mike Garafolo of USA Today, Bowers faces the same charges – two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. That was the same rap against Burress, who wound up interrupting his NFL career for a prison stay. The charges have a maximum sentence of 3 ½ years. Burress did 20 months behind bars after he took a plea deal.
Per the report, Bowers did not try to carry the gun through security. He informed airline personnel upon check-in that he had a gun in his bag. That beats shooting himself in the leg carrying the gun in a waist band at a night club, a la Burress, but it carry the same charges.
