Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested earlier today and charged with two counts of aggravated assault stemming from a domestic abuse accusation.
The Cardinals linebacker was sought earlier in the week after a woman accused him of assault. According to the initial report, the woman suffered injuries consistent with a physical attack. Washington has already been suspended for the first four games of the NFL season because of a violation of the NFL’s drug policy. Now, he faces potentially more serious trouble.
“This is a legal matter and I am limited in what I can say other than that my lawyer and I will continue to cooperate with investigators and welcome the opportunity for all the facts to be presented,” Washington said in a statement, according to the team’s Web site. “I regret that the situation has brought this kind of attention to my family and my team. I look forward to resolving it as soon as possible.”
