DeSean Jackson is going to a larger helmet in the hopes that it helps protect him from future concussions.

The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver has been outfitted with a bigger and newer model from Schutt Sports that he is expected to wear in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, his first game back since a big hit from Atlanta Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson on Oct. 17 knocked him out with a concussion.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson has been given a Schutt Air XT, a helmet the company claims can absorb 12 to 50 percent more of the impact than the previous Schutt model he was using that was discontinued about three years ago.

The only other thing Jackson could do would be move to an even larger helmet, but players prefer smaller models. Per the report, Riddell is the official helmet provider for the NFL but players are permitted to use other models provided they cover the supplier’s logo.
