New England lets go of 12 veterans to reach 53-man roster limit. Terry McCormick
The New England Patriots placed rookie running back/track star Jeff Demps on injured reserve with a knee injury as part of the process to get down to 53 players.
As previously reported, the Pats had some surprises and a few interesting names among their cuts. Of the 12 vets let go by New England, that list included WR Deion Branch, S Sergio Brown, DL Marcus Harrison, WR Jesse Holley, QB Brian Hoyer, S James Ihedigbo, OL Matt Kopa, C Dan Koppen, LB Niko Koutouvides, S Derrick Martin, LB Jeff Tarpinian and S Malcolm Williams.
The Patriots released four first-year players in FB Eric Kettani, DL Aaron Lavarias, TE Alex Silvestro and WR Kerry Taylor.
The Patriots released one 2012 draft pick: WR Jeremy Ebert.
The Patriots released five rookie free agents: OL Derek Dennis, TE Tyler Urban, OL Dustin Waldron, OL Jeremiah Warren and OL Darrion Weems.
