The New England Patriots will sign Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps, according to NFL.com.
Demps starred as a running back for the University of Florida, but went undrafted in April because he chose to focus on his track career. He won a silver medal in London as part of the United States' 400-meter relay team.
The Patriots' interest in Demps may have been accelerated somewhat by the news that running back Stevan Ridley suffered a knee injury in Thursday's practice, though that injury is not believed to be serious.
