A little dispute over some birthday cake has ended up with a bullet going into one of the co-defendants in Michael Vick’s dogfighting case and could have the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in serious trouble – with the law and the league.
According to David Squires of the Hampton Roads (Va.) Daily Press, Quanis Phillips showed up at a party Thursday night that was to kick off a weekend of celebrations for Vick’s 30th birthday. If you could celebrate your birthday all weekend, wouldn’t you?
Per Squires, Phillips threatened to smash cake in Vick’s face or actually did give him a face full of cake. Or another version of the story is that Phillips was the one wearing cake on his face. At any rate, after some threats or actions with the cake, the group moved outside Guadalajara night club in Virginia Beach Town Center. The report states there are several cameras located there and that is where Phillips was shot in the parking lot. Whether or not Vick was still around at the time remains to be seen. Phillips is in good condition.
Squires indicates Vick was ordered not to associate with his former pals from the dogfighting days, Phillips included. Vick’s lawyer Larry Woodward has quickly stepped forward to say his client not only was not involved in the shooting, he was not present when it occurred. You can expect Roger Goodell to take some interest in this cakefest soon.
