As the Miami Dolphins search for a replacement for general manager Jeff Ireland, they have asked for and been granted permission to interview Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer, according to Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten.

Wooten expressed some concern over how the Dolphins' front office will be structured in terms of final say authority and other details.

"The general manager jobs are heating up now, and the Dolphins put in a ticket on Ray Farmer," Wooten said in a telephone interview. "They've been given permission and I talked to Ray this morning. I want to talk to the Dolphins. I talked to Jeff Pash from the NFL. I didn't quite understand what they were saying about how everything is going to work."

Farmer is a former Philadelphia Eagles fourth-round linebacker who was previously the Kansas City Chiefs' director of pro personnel.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, Farmer was a pro scout for the Atlanta Falcons.

Farmer played collegiately at Duke.
