One thing that wasn’t clear when Donald Driver was in Hollywood making his moves to win on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” was what his future looked like in Green Bay.
Back in Los Angeles on Wednesday for the ESPY’s, Driver made it clear what his goal is. The wide receiver, who re-negotiated his contract to return this season, wants to play two more seasons.
“I'm going to play two more years, this one, then next year, then I'm completely done,” the 37-year-old Driver said. “(I'm) gonna put my cleats on the shelf and do something different.”
Driver’s new contract, which is worth $2.3 million, makes it pretty certain he will be around the club in 2012. There is a substantial guarantee and the Packers won’t want him to earn that money doing nothing. But jumping ahead and projecting Driver into 2013, well, that might be wishful thinking at the moment. But we’re not going to doubt the possibility.
“I've always said I wanted to retire a Packer,” Driver said. “Now, I get that opportunity to retire for, as I always say, the best franchise in the world.”
