Donovan McNabb has his eye on 3 NFL teams

But will they pick up the phone and call? Brad Biggs

Donovan McNabb is targeting three teams for a possible return this coming season.

But the free-agent quarterback has no idea if the phone is going to ring for him.

The Minnesota Vikings released McNabb midway through this past season, and he hasn’t played well since 2009 when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. McNabb figured the Chicago Bears would call him when Jay Cutler was injured in November, and that didn’t happen.

I see three teams in the NFL, right now, that I feel like I can add a little bit of flavor to it from what they have,” McNabb said on Wednesday on NFL Network. “I won’t mention those teams. But, if the phone rings, there will be a lot of decisions to make on that.”

Your guess is as good as anyone what teams those are. There are not a lot of quarterback openings in the league right now, and it’s hard to imagine any club committing to McNabb as a starter right now. He simply hasn’t played well the last two seasons, and in each stop in Washington and Minnesota he’s cast a large shadow.

McNabb has a television career ahead of him if he doesn’t play. He’s satisfied with a 13-year career that will be remembered for some excellent seasons with the Eagles.

“A lot of people take a lot of things from the game,” McNabb said. “They take away a Super Bowl ring, they take away an opportunity to play with Hall of Fame players. When I walk away from the game, I take a little bit of everything.”

Maybe we're way off here, but it's difficult for us to imagine a team reaching out to McNabb with an offer. He'll be a distracting figure in almost every locker room, and the game film of him from the last two seasons is going to be a hard sell.

For starters, it would help if Donovan would get in shape for once in his life. With his money, I don't see why the guy doesn't have a personal trainer and nutritionist. This is his career and he should take it more seriously instead of thinking that he should be a starter someplace.

Donavan McMushMouth in the broadcast booth?
Even his chunky soup commercials were mumbled.
As for him taking 'a little bit of everything' - yeah, unless you count actually WINNING.
What a bum.

Donovan is a lazy bum that hasn't seen the inside of a gym since him mom was last on a Chunky Soup commercial. He's traded his spot in the NFL for a spot at the buffet table.

The scenarios that makes the most sense for Donovan are the Browns or Seahawks. Both have solid offensive lines so he wouldn't spend so much time on the ground (unlike in Minnesota), defenses filled with young talent that can make plays (unlike in Minnesota) and some talent on the outside.

For cleveland he could mentor a guy like RGIII. For Seattle, while Tavaris Jackson gained praise for playing very tough, i'm not sure he is seen as a long term solution. They could have McNabb compete with Jackson for the starting gig and let a drafted QB ride the bench for a year or two.
