Don't look now, Redskins trying to climb into playoff race

It’s not going to be easy for the Washington Redskins to reach the postseason.

Not after the hole they dug themselves earlier in this season, particularly after losing three straight heading into the bye weekend, including a home loss to the Carolina Panthers.

But after a 38-31 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, the Redskins are suddenly on the verge of being in the mix in the NFC East, especially if the Green Bay Packers can do them a favor and knock off the New York Giants on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. Rick Snider of the Washington Examiner takes a close look at the Redskins’ chances here.

The Redskins have toppled the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles in the last two weeks but those are football teams headed the wrong direction. The big test comes next in a Dec. 3 “Monday Night Football” meeting with the Giants. The rest of the schedule is relatively easy. The Redskins host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14 but then they close out with games at Cleveland, at Philadelphia and home against Dallas.

It’s not going to be easy but it shouldn’t be when coming out of a 3-6 hole. According to Snider, three teams since 1990 have gone from 3-6 to the postseason.
