With so many teams in the market for a quarterback, it’s expected that the top prospects will be pushed up draft boards.
Teams are digging in for more information on the crop of passers at the scouting combine, and it’s also a setting that could allow the Philadelphia Eagles to test the waters with Kevin Kolb. Trading isn’t permitted until the start of the new league year, and if there is a work stoppage beginning March 4, who knows how long it will be before teams can talk swap.
But unofficially anything and just about everything does happen here in Indianapolis. The demand could put the Eagles in a strong position if they do indeed move to deal Kolb, who has said he wants to start. He’s currently beind Michael Vick and Arizona and San Francisco have been mentioned prominently as possible landing spots for him.
“Everything is just projecting,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said when asked about Kolb’s trade value today.
“Kevin's a great player. We have a lot of confidence in Kevin, obviously, we gave him the starting job and traded Donovan (McNabb)last year, he's obviously looking forward to being a good starting quarterback, and a lot could happen,” Roseman added.
But the Eagles placed the exclusive franchise tag on Vick because he is clearly their quarterback moving forward and it’s difficult to imagine a time when Kolb’s trade value would be higher.
“We're still evaluating all our options and all our positions,” Roseman said. “Obviously, we've been really fortunate to have good quarterbacks. There's Michael, there's Kevin, and we've got a lot of confidence in Mike Kafka, so that's a position that we're always going to want to be strong
at … We don't discuss any (trade) discussions, external or internal."
