The Philadelphia Eagles are cutting wide receiver DeSean Jackson today, the team announced.

Jackson is being released after attempts to trade him failed.

"After careful consideration this offseason, Eagles decide to part ways with DeSean Jackson," the team announced. "Informed him of his release today."

The roster move comes on the same day that NJ.com reported that the Eagles are concerned about Jackson's alleged ties to Los Angeles gang members.

The article links Jackson to one men who was accused of murdering a 14-year-old boy, who was later acquitted. That man, also a rapper that goes by the stage name T-Ron, is also signed to Jackson's record label Jaccpot Records.

Jackson has also been photographed using hand signals associated with the Crips gang.

The Eagles were going to owe Jackson $10.5 million in base money, with the receiver carrying a $12.75 million cap figure. The Eagles will still have to eat $6 million in dead money this season after releasing him.

By the looks of it, it appears the Eagles were trying to avoid a potential Aaron Hernandez situation.
