Big changes are likely to come in Philadelphia and this is likely just the beginning.

After the team’s seventh consecutive loss Monday night, defensive end Jason Babin was released today, the club announced. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who was injured in the 30-22 loss at Lincoln Financial Field, was placed on injured reserve. Jackson suffered a ribs injury.

Babin has 5 ½ sacks this season and clearly the Eagles believe he is underperforming. The Eagles are expected to give more playing time to younger players like Vinny Curry.

"By releasing him today this gives us an opportunity to give more playing time some of the younger guys in the defensiveline rotation," Eagles coach Andy Reid said, according to Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly.

The 32-year-old Babin, who had 18 sacks a year ago, will now have a chance to hook on with a winner. He will have to clear waivers first.
