After having missed the last 30 regular season games due to a variety of back problems, the Philadelphia Eagles finally parted ways with offensive lineman Shawn Andrews.

The team announced the move Wednesday afternoon.

“We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was in Philadelphia,” said head coach Andy Reid in a statement released to the media. “We have, however, decided to move in another direction.”

The 16th overall pick in the 2004 draft, Andrews started 47 of 48 games from 2005-2007, earning trips to the Pro Bowl in both ’06 and ’07.

However, the former Arkansas Razorback battled depression and a series of back injuries that forced him to miss the entire 2009 season, not to mention 14 games in 2008.

Any potential suitors certainly realize that this guy comes with a big red flag. Injuries aside, Andrews’ desire and competitiveness have been called into question several times over the past two years.

He was a beast early on when motivated, but has shown virtually nothing since 2007.

Andrews had all the talent in the world to be one of the greats at the tackle posistion with his rare blend of size and speed but it's unfortunate for him as well as the Eagles that he went through a rough point in his life and his career went down the drain but I hope for the best with Andrews and some team will sign him and hopefully his life is back in check and he does well because he's a good guy just needs a pick me up so to speak.

Matthew: I agree with your point, but it was painful to read that as written. Puncutation would have helped tremendously.

Another reason for the invite is Panini - the trading card company - wants him there so they can get the jersey/hat he wears to put in trading cards, and to get his first autographs after being drafted.
