The Philadelphia Eagles will not have the same overcrowding issues at wide receiver as they did last season.
Veteran Kevin Curtis, who was hampered by a knee injury for much of 2009, was released by the club today. The Eagles also announced that defensive end Darren Howard has been released.
Curtis appeared in only three games last season, catching six passes. The Eagles have made a youth movement at the position with the emergence of DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant. Signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2007, Curtis caught 116 passes for 1,577 yards and eight touchdowns in 28 games for the team.
"Kevin is one of the classiest players I have ever been around,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement. “He's the type of player and person we like to build our team with. We just feel good about the young core of receivers we have on our team at this point."
Howard became expendable after Philadelphia acquired Darryl Tapp in a trade from Seattle. He was with the team the last four seasons, appearing in all 64 regular-season games and making 22 ½ sacks.
"Darren Howard has been one of our most productive and versatile members of our defense in the last couple of years,” Reid said. “He is nothing but a solid player, leader and person on and off the field."

I'd love to see an open competition at QB, because I think that Brennan would have a real shot at unseating both Campbell and Grossman for the starting job.
