Eagles sign rookie linebacker, defensive lineman Aaron Wilson
The Philadelphia Eagles have struck four-year deals with two seventh-round draft picks, linebacker Jamar Chaney and defensive lineman Jeff Owens, according to a league source.
Both received the standard minimum base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000 as well as signing bonuses in line with the NFL slotting principle.
Chaney's deal is worth roughly $1.85 million with a signing bonus slightly over $60,000.
Owens' contract is worth about $1.83 million and includes a signing bonus of about $44,000.
Selected out of Mississippi State, Chaney ran a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine as the fastest linebacker and improved that time to a 4.45 to 4.48 range at his Pro Day workout.
Chaney, who's nearly identical in size to NFL linebackers Patrick Willis and Jerod Mayo at 6-foot-1, 241-pounds, has workout numbers that compare favorably to those NFL standouts as well as the other linebackers selected in the first few rounds over the past five years.
Chaney missed the 2008 season with a broken leg, but the Florida native started 39 career games.
At the scouting combine, the Florida native also bench presssed 225 pounds 26 times and turned in a 39-inch vertical leap.
He also registered a 10-4 broad jump, a 4.29 short shuttle and a 6.90 in the three-cone drill.
Chaney was the South team's Most Valuable Player on defense at the Senior Bowl.
Drafted out of the University of Georgia, Owens bench pressed 225 pounds 44 times at the scouting combine and clocked a 4.83 in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day workout.
The 6-foot-1, 305-pounder's maximum bench press is 575 pounds.
He recorded 102 career tackels, 12 1/2 for losses and five sacks for the Bulldogs.
