Eagles swing deal for DeMeco Ryans

You might be hard pressed to find a team in more need of help at linebacker than the Philadelphia Eagles.

Help is on the way.

The Eagles have agreed to a trade with the Houston Texans that will bring them DeMeco Ryans, the former defensive rookie of the year. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported the deal. The Texans will receive undisclosed draft picks, per the report. UPDATING: The Eagles announced they will send the Texans their fourth-round pick and the clubs are swapping third-rounders. That means the Texans will now pick 77th overall in the third round and the Eagles will select 89th in the third round.

Rumors were the Texans were going to ask Ryans to agree to a pay cut that would reduce his base pay which is set to be almost $6 million this season. He played in less than 60 percent of the action this season as he returned from an Achilles tendon injury.

Ryans might not be the same player he was when he entered the NFL in 2006, but if he’s healthy he’ll be a definite upgrade for the Eagles.
