NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that the extravagant Super Bowl halftime show did not cause the Superdome power outage that interrupted the third quarter for 34 minutes.
However, it doesn't sound like CBS analyst and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is on board with that theory.
Esiason, who was broadcasting the game on radio, said he heard a buzzing about five or six minutes before the power went out and added that he had been told that Beyonce's rehearsal had knocked power out twice earlier in the week in the building.
“The interesting thing is, about five or six minutes prior to I guess the breaker going, where our radio booth was up on the seventh floor, we were almost at the ceiling of the dome, and Kevin (Harlan) says to me, ‘Man, do you hear that buzzing?’ And I took my headset off and there was this like electrical buzz sound coming from the ceiling," Esiason said via CBSSports.com. "This was after halftime, it was after Beyonce.
“And by the way, Beyonce blew the electric in the Superdome twice, I’m told, during her rehearsals during the week."
Who knows? Maybe Beyonce is a 49ers fan and figured they needed a jolt to get back in the game.
