Retired quarterback says his presence is not benefiting the team. Terry McCormick
Tim Tebow won't be able to count Boomer Esiason among his legion of fans.
The retired quarterback and NFL analyst said on his morning radio show on WFAN with co-host Craig Carton in New York, "I’m just telling you right now, I would (cut him), and I’ll tell you why I would. It’s not in any way, shape or form — I think — benefiting this team.”
Esiason called the trade for Tebow a "major mistake" and indicated that his presence only hinders current starter Mark Sanchez by creating a quarterback controversy, not to mention the circus atmosphere that surrounds the Jets camp in large part because of Tebow's popularity.
Esiason doesn't think Tebow is effective enough as a passer to even make a Wildcat package work successfully.
“All you have to do is watch him throw the ball,” said Esiason. “Just watch him.”
