Philadelphia Eagles offensive guard Evan Mathis contemplating holding out from training camp in hopes of a new contract.

However, he ultimately showed up on time. Mathis is due $5 million this season under a five-year, $25 million contract signed last year. Mathis is an All-Pro blocker.

"I try to look at it from my point of view, try to look at it from their point of view," Mathis said. "I didn't want to have a negative impact on the team, didn't want to send the wrong message to players, coaches, fans. I look at what I'm doing as doing the right thing in this situation."

Mathis had some leverage with Lane Johnson suspended, but didn't take advantage of the situation.

"I'm not trying to strong-arm the team or put them in a bad situation to get what I want," Mathis said. "I'm trying to do the right thing."

Follow me on Twitter: @RavensInsider

Aaron Wilson covers the Ravens for The Baltimore Sun
