Ex-NFL QB Doug Williams fired as Grambling coach
Doug Williams, who became the first black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl, was fired as head football coach at his alma mater, Grambling.
Williams, who guided the 1987 Washington Redskins to the championship with 5 TD passes in the Super Bowl, confirmed his dismissal to the Monroe (La.) News-Star this morning.
Williams was a first-round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1978 and guided the woeful Bucs into the NFC Championship Game in his second season.
He coached at Grambling beginning in 1998 through 2002 and returned to the school for a second stint as head coach in 2011.
