Falcons, Roddy White agree to extension

It looks like Roddy White will be a member of the Atlanta Falcons for four more years.

On Thursday, the organization announced that White signed a four-year contract extension, which will keep him under contract with the Falcons through the 2018 season.

This deal essentially assures that White will have the opportunity to retire as a Falcon, which would give him the rare distinction for a receiver to spend an entire career with only one team. White has come a long way as a football player, seeing that his first couple of seasons were rocky and that there was a time when it seemed his future could be in doubt.

Instead, after his first two sub-par seasons, White burst out for 1,202 yards and six touchdowns in 2007. From 2007 through 2012, White recorded 1,000-yard seasons, earning Pro Bowl berths in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. White dealt with injuries a year ago, which cost him three games. With Julio Jones injuring his foot, White saw a lot of double teams on a team that flamed out after having high expectations placed upon them.

But with White and Jones healthy for the 2014 season, a case can be made that the Falcons have the best receiving duo in the NFL — or at least a top three tandem. White, with his job security, will look to erase last season's memory as the NFL preseason gets underway.

Follow me on Twitter: @JasonHButt
