Lofa Tatupu sat out all last season and now there is some question whether or not he will be ready to begin this year with the Atlanta Falcons.
The club announced this morning the veteran linebacker suffered a pectoral injury while working out Friday.
“Lofa sustained a pectoral injury while working out yesterday,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said on the team’s Web site. “At this point, we do not know the extent of the injury, but we expect to have more information early next week.”
Obviously, if it is an injury that requires surgery it could put the balance of the season in jeopardy for the former Pro Bowl performer. Tatupu signed with the Falcons in March after a six-year career with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Falcons open training camp on Thursday.
