The Atlanta Falcons' quest to build their billion dollar stadium has taken a turn north – literally.
Falcons CEO Rich McKay tells the Associated Press that the site in the southern part of Atlanta will not be able to be used due to the inability to purchase two historic churches to use as part of the parcel of land where the stadium was to be built.
Friendship Baptist Church and Mount Vernon Baptist Church both have had roles in the history of Atlanta. The Falcons and the churches could not come to an agreement on price, so the team and city are shifting their focus to the northern part of Atlanta, where the Falcons originally preferred to locate the new stadium.
