Falcons re-worked Justin Blalock's deal to make trade happen

The Atlanta Falcons needed to crunch some numbers and then move some around to make room for Asante Samuel.

In order to acquire the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback on Wednesday, the Falcons restructured the contract of guard Justin Blalock, who was re-signed just last summer.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons are believed to have moved some numbers around to lower Blalock’s cap number of $5.3 million this season. Blalock received a $38 million, six-year contract last summer.

Before bringing Samuel aboard, the Falcons had $2.6 million in cap room. Previously, the club had re-worked the deal of cornerback Dunta Robinson.
