The NFL wants to maximize exposure for companies that are aligned with the NFL’s business interests.
So, that means players must wear the proper attire, even in postgame interviews. So, don’t expect to see San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith sporting a San Francisco Giants hat in postgame interviews again anytime soon. Not unless Smith is ready to write a check for $15,000.
Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports Smith will be fined if he violates the NFL’s policy again. Per Inman, the hat is non-sponsored gear and there is a dress code that runs 90 minutes before and after each game.
He was issued a warning the first time.
