Wide receiver was expected to be big contributor for ‘Noles this season. Dave Miller
Florida State wide receiver Jarmon Fortson was dismissed from the football team on Sunday for violating team rules, head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed.
Fortson, a junior from Hurtsboro, Ala., was FSU’s third-leading receiver last season despite starting only six games, finishing with 45 catches for 610 yards and four touchdowns. He was expected to team with fellow junior Bert Reed to give quarterback Christian Ponder one of the better receiving duos in the ACC this season.
The 6-3, 221-pounder likely would have been one of Ponder’s favorite targets—specifically in the red zone because of his size.
The loss of Fortson marks the second starter lost for the Seminoles recently.
Last month, Nigel Carr was arrested on five criminal charges. The linebacker has been indefinitely suspended from the team.
