Tennessee Titans linebacker Moise Fokou said Wednesday that the San Diego Chargers intentionally tried to hurt his arm, leading him to retaliate and draw a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness.
“They were trying to put my arm in a blender,” Fokou said." That's what they were trying to do. It was kind of like a fight or flight kind of feeling, just mano-a-mano, survival of the fittest. I felt that my arm was in a compromising position and when I got up my first instinct was to kind of defend myself, right, wrong or indifferent. That's just how I felt.”
Fokou did not identify the Chargers player, but he was penalized for roughness on San Diego right guard Jeromey Clary, per the game replay.
It was teammate Bernard Pollard, in an interview with 102.5 The Game in Nashville, who first brought the situation to light Wednesday. Pollard was talking about player safety and penalties when he threw the Fokou situation out there as part of the conversation.
“We're very conscious of the safety factor. We had a guy try to break our linebacker's arm, blatant as all get out,” Pollard told the station. “When you've got guys aiming for head shots and things like that, we want those guys suspended."
It will be interesting to see how the league views the situation, especially with Fokou's side of the matter coming out publicly now. Fokou said he has not heard from the league, but would appeal if a fine came his way.
