Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Blair Keil died Sunday. He was 50.

Kiel, who started as a freshman at Notre Dame, went on to spend seven seasons in the NFL, also making stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts.

Kiel fell ill at a relative’s home in Columbus, Ind., and died of natural causes, according to the Bartholomew County coroner’s office. They are awaiting results of toxicology reports.

Kiel is the uncle of touted Irish recruit Gunner Kiel.

“He was my starting quarterback for two years and he was a great leader,” former Irish running back Allen Pinkett told Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune.
