Anthony Wayne Smith was originally with a killing in 2008. Terry McCormick
Anthony Wayne Smith, who was with the Raiders from 1990-97, is facing four murder charges, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
Smith, 45, was originally awaiting a retrial in the killing of Maurilio Ponce from October 2008. The first trial ended in a deadlocked jury.
But Smith now has also been charged with three other murders and could face the death penalty if convicted. He faces charges for killing Kevin and Ricky Nettles in 1999 and Dennis Henderson in 2001.
Defense attorney Michael Evans, who represented Smith in the first trial, admitted the new charges came as a surprise to him.
