Auburn bolstered its future linebacker depth on Wednesday when it received a verbal commitment from Tre' Williams.
The Class of 2014 Saint Paul's Episcopal School (Mobile, AL) product is rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, and he had offers from SEC powers such as Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss. USC was also in the mix.
The 6-2, 217-pound inside linebacker had originally said he was going to commit at the Under Armour All-America Game in January, but he moved his decision up. High school teammate Joshua Casher (offensive lineman) is also an Auburn commitment. Their team advanced to the state semifinals last year.
One of the better inside linebackers in the country, Williams had 113 tackles as a junior. He is Auburn’s fifth commitment in the 2014 class, along with Casher, linebacker De’Shaun Davis, running back Kamryn Pettway and tight end Chris Laye. In-state defensive end Justin Thornton will announce a decision Sunday, and he will choose between Auburn, LSU and Texas A&M.
