Fox utilizes Tebow, stops running ‘that other crap’

In an interview with Jeff Darlington of, Denver Broncos coach John Fox was very candid about the changes the offense has undergone in order to accommodate new quarterback Tim Tebow.

After a 45-10 blasting by the Detroit Lions, Fox decided that if Tebow had any chance to succeed, the Broncos were going to have to cater to his skill set and run a form of the spread option. The results have been good – two victories over the Raiders and Chiefs that have propelled the struggling Broncos back into the thick of the AFC West race at 4-5, a game behind Oakland.

“If we were trying to run a regular offense, he'd be screwed,” Fox said of Tebow.

“After the loss to Detroit, we decided if Tim is going to be our guy, we can't do that other crap,” Fox said. “We had to tweak it.”

“That other crap” is the conventional pro style offense that the other 31 teams in the NFL run a form of. But thus far, making the adjustments to make Tebow a success has translated into success for Fox and the Broncos, who get another chance to test out their new system Thursday night when they face the New York Jets.
