Frank Gore gets three-year extension from 49ers

Frank Gore didn’t match the big contract given to DeAngelo Williams, but he did meet his goal of having a new contract in place before the start of the regular season.

Gore agreed to a three-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers, a deal that more or less halves what Williams received. Gore will get $21 million in new money with $13 million guaranteed, according to Pro Football Talk. Williams cashed in with the Panthers with a $43 million, five-year contract that included $21 million guaranteed. One key difference? Williams was an unrestricted free agent and Gore had one year on his exisiting contract at $4.9 million.

The 49ers said they wanted to make Gore, 28, a member of the franchise for life, but it’s a risky position to invest in and Gore has been a high-mileage performer. He suffered a fractured hip last November.

Now, Chris Johnson and Matt Forte are the running backs waiting on new deals.
