From Sam Farmer of the LA Times:

As a new quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, Jeff Garcia will be playing under a black flag now.

Jeff GarciaAPGarcia (right) is going after Russell's job.

And he won't be waving a white one.

So don't expect the 39-year-old Garcia, a scrapper throughout his career, to back off one bit even though he's second on the depth chart behind JaMarcus Russell, selected No. 1 in the 2007 draft.

Nor is Garcia going to tiptoe gingerly around the question of which quarterback he thinks should be starting when the season rolls around.

"Not knocking JaMarcus or anybody else on the team, but I have a belief in my own abilities," Garcia said in a phone interview from his home in San Diego.. "[That has] me feeling I am the best quarterback on the team. That's just how I approach the game."

As a lifetime LSU fan and ardent follower of the football program, I was surprised Russel was taken so high in the draft. The guy has a cannon for an arm but his mental capacity to make the right QB reads and decisions was certainly lacking. IMO, he just doesn't have what it takes to lead the Raiders or any other team from the most important position on the field.

Garcia was the ultimate competitor in Tampa and I am sure he will be the Raiders.. Upside fierce, inovative and a QB that the team an rally around
Downside... He is nuts, will attack a 300 pound tackle... well that may be the best thing for a out of his mind Raider ... JJ
