New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who has come under criticism of late, said Friday from the team's rookie orientation that he doesn't resent the flak he has caught in the media.

“I don’t resent any of it,” Smith said via the New York Daily News. “I don’t pay attention to any of it.”

Smith has been an easy media target, as he dropped into the second round of the draft, and then fired his agent shortly thereafter. There have also been reports and speculation questions his work habits and attitude as well.

“I think it’s been a more eventful few weeks for the media,” he later added. “I’ve just been my natural old self. Nothing’s changed. I’m not feeling any way toward any of it. I couldn’t care less about it. My only job is to focus on what I have here and to get better.”

For what it's worth, Smith said the right things on Friday, and that is a good first step in the right direction as he feels his way around the NFL in a tough media market like New York and with a team that is no stranger to a circus atmosphere over the past couple of seasons.
