The New York Jets plan to start rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the third preseason game against the New York Giants, according to the New York Daily News.
The start is contingent on his ankle not having further problems this week.
Smith is getting his shot at unseating incumbent starter Mark Sanchez.
Smith has been getting healthier after not playing in the second preseason game.
The second-round draft pick from West Virginia has outplayed Sanchez, but lacks experience and isn't 100 percent healthy.
