Can wide receiver bust provide them with any help? Brad Biggs
How desperate are the New York Giants for help at wide receiver?
Real desperate. That’s how we would characterize their latest roster move today when they claimed Devin Thomas off waivers from the Carolina Panthers, the second time the former second-round draft pick from Michigan State has been claimed this season. If the receiver-strapped Panthers don’t have a need for Thomas, we’re not sure if another team can find a use for him.
The Giants are dangerously thin at the position after Hakeem Nicks joined the injured list on Sunday night. They’re still without Steve Smith and injuries have also claimed Victor Cruz and Ramses Barden this season. To make room for Thomas, the Giants placed fullback Madison Hedgecock on injured reserve. He’s had a pulled hamstring.
New York could be looking to Thomas for help in the return game, but at this point he’s a major reclamation project as a wide receiver.
