The New York Giants have promoted defensive back Michael Coe from their practice squad to the 53-man roster today.

Coe takes the place of defensive end Alex Hall, who was placed on waivers, the team announced.

Coe was a fifth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts from Alabama State in 2007. He’s also been a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who the Giants are playing Sunday. The move could have been made with an eye toward boosting the special teams unit.

The Giants claimed Hall off waivers twice this year. The first time, they claimed him from the Philadelphia Eagles just prior to the start of training camp. At the start of this month, they claimed him off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals. To make room for Hall last time, they placed cornerback Bruce Johnson on injured reserve. This time around, New York has added some depth in the secondary.
